UGG® COMMITMENT TO ANIMAL WELFARE

UGG® is committed to openness and transparency in information. We hope to empower consumers with information on the materials that go into our products. UGG® is the pioneer of ethical principles in the supply chain of consumer goods, especially in the field of sheepskin procurement. Frequently asked questions from consumers include:

1.What is sheepskin?
2.What types of sheep farmers are there?
3.Does UGG® source sheepskin responsibly?
4.Are sheeps which sheepskins provided to UGG® subjected to inhumane mulesing?
5.Where is the sheepskin used in UGG® products sourced?
6.In addition to using sheepskin, what other animal hides does UGG® use?

1. WHAT IS SHEEPSKIN?

Just as leather is treated cowhide, sheepskin is treated sheep's hides. UGG® sheepskins are sourced from sheep raised in the meat industry. UGG® does not raise sheep itself, but sources its hides from tanneries.

2. WHAT TYPES OF SHEEP FARMERS ARE THERE?

There are two types of sheep farmers: farmers that raise sheep for their wool and farmers that raise sheep for food.

The sheepskin used in UGG products come from farmers who raise sheep primarily for food.

3. DOES UGG® SOURCE SHEEPSKIN RESPONSIBLY?

Yes! UGG® only purchases animal materials from suppliers that comply with our strict ethical sourcing and animal welfare policy.

UGG® requires all suppliers to treat animals in a humane manner to prevent animal cruelty.

Sheepskin is just a by-product of the sheep farming industry. UGG® believed that sheep should not be raised just for their skins.

4. ARE SHEEPS WHICH SHEEPSKINS PROVIDED TO UGG® SUBJECTED TO INHUMANE MULESING? (MULESING REQUIRES CUTTING THE SKIN FROM A SHEEP'S BUTTOCKS)

UGG® requires all sourced sheepskins must not come from sheeps that subjected to mulesing.

Mulesing, the cutting of the skin from a sheep's buttocks, is a cruel and inhumane action. Therefore, UGG® requires its suppliers to certify that sheeps are not subjected to mulesing.

5. WHERE IS THE SHEEPSKIN USED IN UGG® PRODUCTS SOURCED?

UGG® sources sheepskins from tanneries and requires the tanneries to certify the country of origin of the sheepskins. UGG® only sources sheepskins from the following countries: Australia, United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Spain. One reason UGG® only sources sheepskins from the countries listed above is that these countries have established standards that regulate the guidelines for protecting animals.

UGG® does not source sheepskin from sheep raised in the Middle East, North Africa, or countries that do not have animal welfare standards.

6. IN ADDITION TO USING SHEEPSKIN, WHAT OTHER ANIMAL HIDES DOES UGG® USE?

The other animal leathers of UGG® are also by-products from other industries. In addition, UGG® also prohibits the use of angora rabbit hair in its products because of the inhumane treatment of angora rabbits during the breeding process.

Additionally, as UGG® cares about the planet and the threat of deforestation, we require all leather suppliers to have Leather Working Group certification and "A" level traceability to ensure that UGG®-sourced hides are not originated from farms involved in illegal deforestation.
